Can you believe July is here? Or rather, can you Belieber July is here – in honor of the Justin Beiber concert on Tuesday. Yes, I said it. If you thought June was insane, and there’s still more to come, July doesn’t settle down any. Especially at the Chesapeake Energy Arena! Here’s what I have today:

Stairs | Sandi Krakowski | Photo Tips | Phillip Phillips | Ingraham out | Suraj | Regina Murphy | Simply Hired dud jobs

Happy Wednesday! Is everyone keeping their holiday invites in order? I totally messed up on a Facebook invite event last Friday that I really wanted to go to. Maybe I shouldn’t turn off those invite notifications. BTW: December 6, 7, 8 & 9 have so much going on for OKC. Refer to my calendar of events.

Here’s what’s on my mind:

OKC Thunder shirts possibly the sure gift for wayward Okies who still want to show pride. Seen at Blue 7’s Myriad Gardens Pop-up Shops

Congratulations on this wonderful Slice Magazine article for the ladies at Studio Six in the Paseo Arts District. Regina Murphy, Mary Nickell and Sue Moss Sullivan are highlighted. You can see a show on Regina’s works at JRB Art at the Elms, opening December 7  during First Friday Gallery Walk and of course Studio Six will be open on First Friday as well.

I was really happy Tony and Melissa won Dancing with the Stars All Stars last night. I was more happy for Tony. I’ve seen him go through all those dud celebrities and be so patient with them.

The Little Willie Triple Dog Dare stair climbing challenge is this Saturday in downtown with three buildings – Leadership Square, Oklahoma Tower, then the other side of Leadership Square is inviting. I want to say I’ll do it. Stairs kill me! Like – little flights of stairs kill me. Great idea!

I’ve been on a 30-day free trial for this blog guru Sandi Krakowski. Pretty good so far. Check back with me in 26 days. She’s really wacky. She’s like me but on super 10-hour Energy drink!

10 really amazing tips on taking great photos. Each tip from an expert photographer.

Steve Lackmeyer is so on target with this NewsOK article on MAPS3. I remember when I was at the Chamber during MAPS1 and there was just such negative publicity then everything opened and then it was the greatest idea ever! Just chill out everyone please. Patience is a virtue. I’ve been there a lot of times. Don’t rush architects, engineers and construction. It’s like the ole’ measure 500 times, build once motto.

I’ve quit watching American Idol years ago but I sure do like the latest winner’s song, Phillip Phillips’ Gone.

Laura Ingraham is leaving her current radio distributor. No mention of a new company sooooo, Tyler Media – this is your out. Turn KOKC AM into more self-improvement, live your life better programming… Maybe even local show about great businesses in OKC?

Life of Pi or Lincoln? I’m not one for period films nor films where animals drown but … I saw this article on the Life of Pi actor Suraj Sharma and became intrigued.

Tony Bennett will play himself on 30 Rock this Thursday. Speaking of NBC Thursdays, Rainn Wilson posted on his Facebook page this spoof of the Two and a Half Men star Angus T. Jones trashing his show except he uses it for The Office. Love him!

Just for fun, I put a tick on Simply Hired alerts for PR/Marketing/Social Media jobs in OKC … this is sad: Customer Service Rep – Data Entry Online Typist. How does this job have anything to do with that criteria? And that’s like – all there is.

Gift idea tip: Do you have a true Oklahoman who moved to San Francisco that has an amazing job with Google and has everything? The OKC Thunder shirt seen above in the Blue 7 section at the Myriad Gardens new Pop-Up Shops concept got a like from her. So I’m thinking a lot of things OKC Thunder, especially for wayward Okies are the sure thing.

Shop Small Saturday, TV Marathons, Downtown in December, DWTS, 5-hour, Elmo no laugh

Happy Wednesday before Thanksgiving!

This is Vanessa. She is here to be the assistant manager for the Devon Ice Rink at the Myriad Gardens. I see her as a future ice skating instructor.

  • Wow! I’m totally into the Shop Small – Small Business Saturday promotion. My recommendations: Paseo Arts District, Western Avenue, Plaza District, Istvan Gallery/Blue SagePop Up Shops at the Myriad Gardens et al? All of these places carry products made in Oklahoma!
  • Take a break from the parades and football games for these random tv marathons. Very random.
  • Downtown In December begins on Friday. There are so many options and all so beautiful at night! If you’re considering the snow tubing, you should plan in advance wisely! I know. I was a total #fail last year.
  • I’m a Dancing with the Stars goober! I’m very happy with the final contestants. It’s been sooo good with all the All Stars. It’s a toss-up between Shawn, Melissa and Kelley. Melissa is truly awesome and I would love to see Tony win finally.
  • I just reloaded Leslie’s OKC calendar of events. It’s so full! I personally think it’s a great reference. Always feel free to send me an event.
  • It’s so hard to love Wayne Coyne these days. He’s gotten kind of mean and dirty and … word on the street – a cheater. He is “sorry sorry sorry” for causing people to lose their flights while they waited behind him in line at the airport. I don’t hate him though.
  • I fall for the 5-Hour Energy look-a-likes too but I always go back to 5-Hour.
  • Just because Kevin Clash is stepping down from Sesame Street doesn’t mean Elmo will go away! Whew but truly sad.
  • I am #teamOklahoma so … go Cowboys and my Sooner-bred and Sooner-dead friends!

First Friday

Happy end of the week! Did everyone survive another 100++ day yesterday? My only beef was about my new OG+E Smart Meter program. It makes my house super hot during the 2-7pm peak hours and then it takes my house from 7pm-… I don’t know when, to recover. I’m sure there’s a quick fix for it. You know… I’m just one step away from my phone. I could call customer service about it but I’m just too hot, too lazy! I still endorse this program and recommend it.

Oh and also I had haters on one of my client’s pages because I posted about the gymnast winning the gold before it was televised. I feel if you don’t want to get early results, it’s best to stay off Facebook. I just deleted the post because it was getting brutal.

Here’s what’s on my mind:

  • The Flaming Lips will perform on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” as part of comedian Stephen Colbert’s recently announced “Pepsi Presents StePhest Colbchella ’012: Rocktaugustfest.” Taping August 10 then replays of different bands on the show.
  • Jimmy Fallon to possibly host the Oscars? Dear Jimmy Fallon: I love you! My sister and I are working on getting tickets to see him this late fall. Fingers crossed!
  • Brewing beer locally seems like a lot of science work. I salute people like J.D. Merryweather and his COOP Ale Works crew.
  • Note to self: build indoor dog walk. Good for hot summer & cold winter walking. My little Pomeranian’s paws just get so hot. When she gets home she soaks her paws in iced water. Seriously. We have not walked in a couple days actually.

Leslie’s OKC for this weekend!

This is from artist Heather Gorham. Her works will be at the JRB Art Gallery tonight!

  • Les Debris presents American Indian Art in Paris Reception and Exhibition, 5-8pm (this mother/daughter/granddaughter team are simply precious!)
  • First Friday Gallery Walk, Paseo Arts District, 6-10pm (lots of Facebook invites for each gallery – it’s very cool to see the energy).
  • Opening Reception for Generation Next: Chapter Two. Temporary exhibit by Desmond Mason in our Tulsa World Gallery. Tonight 6-8pm, Oklahoma Heritage Museum
  • Bank of America’s Museums on Us  first weekend free admission month for cardholders. Includes these fabulous Oklahoma museums: Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the Gilcrease Museum and the Philbrook Museum of Art…great air conditioning too!
  • Total Recall has opened…thinking about it. Loved the 1990 version. Reviews are meh. Do I care?
  • OKCMOA is playing an independent film called Safety Not Guaranteed Friday-Sunday. Lots of social media buzz for it. It has Parks n’ Recs Aubrey Plaza (April) – love her!
  • The Toy & Action Figure Museum is celebrating International Superhero Day on Saturday. Everyone is encouraged to dress up as their favorite Superhero. T&AFM is really wanting to set a world record for most people in costume!
  • Libraries are now open on Sunday, 1-6pm. I heard rumor they’re designated “cool zones” during this heat wave. Air conditioning and WiFi is the best!
  • Salsa at the Devon Energy Sunday Twilight Concerts, Myriad Botanical Gardens, with Son del Barrio with Salsa/Meringue music.

Happy odd/even water rationing. I am on the “odd” side. I watered promptly this morning. I’m fighting the good fight!

Two more July 4th events!

When I posted about July 4th festivities last week, I did not see these two listed. Today I received this eblast from Downtown OKC, Inc. Must have finalized plans I guess… Good news! Downtown will be lively!

Myriad gardens hosts 4th of July event for the whole family

Spend a family-friendly 4th of July at the Myriad Botanical Gardens where the outdoor grounds will be bustling with games, fun activities and music from 11 a.m. – 4 pm!

Remote control sailboats and game sets like croquet and bocce ball will be available to rent and the Crystal Bridge will be open for visitors who want to enjoy over 2000 tropical plants on display inside.

For more information, call 297.3611.

4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza in Bricktown

In an effort to continue the tradition set many years ago, the Bricktown Association will host a Fourth of July fireworks celebration in Bricktown.

Scheduled for Wednesday, July 4, at approximately 9:30 p.m., visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to Bricktown to view the fireworks.

There are several locations in the Bricktown area that provide a great view of the show, including along the Bricktown canal, Lower Bricktown, any parking area, or one of the many Bricktown restaurant patio dining areas.

Don’t be afraid of finding a parking space! Bricktown is offering free parking for everyone in the RedHawks lot.

A big thanks goes out to the Bricktown Association members, the Oklahoma Chevy Team Dealers and JakeFM for making this event possible.

Looking ahead to July 4th activities

Can you believe June is coming to a close and that the July 4th holiday is quickly approaching? I went on a search today to see what was going on and found really good information on About.com/oklahomacity from author Adam Knapp. Additionally I contacted others. Here’s what I found:

Saturday, June 30

Sunday, July 1

Monday, July 2

Tuesday, July 3

Wednesday, July 4

I’m still looking for any further events in Bricktown on July 4th… as always, I’ll keep you posted!
